Notes to Tutors

Dear Friends,

Thank you again for using your time and talent to help students who have chosen Club Z New Mexico for tutoring. We are confident that the individual attention you provide to students – direct and in person – is the best way to show them how to become better students. Studies clearly support one-on-one tutoring as the fastest and most effective method for helping students understand concepts, improve study skills and develop more positive attitudes towards learning.

By sharing your observations with their parents, you provide the entire family with a better understanding of how their child is doing and how the education system works.

In a world of one-size-fits-all, your work is an important exception. Education is more than just dumping data on kids. All teachers know this. It is about two-way communication and patience and empathy. But time and resources don’t always make it easy – or even possible – for the best teachers to provide this to all their kids all the time. And that is where your tutoring assists both the students and their families AND their teachers.

The other element you bring is the example of a caring adult. Kids are keen observers and they are learning all the time from the examples – good and bad – that adults in their lives provide. You are in a unique position to provide them with a positive example of a centered, successful adult.

These are trying times for people. To the extent that we can deal with problems without sharing our anxieties with children, we fulfill the real role of adults. We are here to protect and guide them…not to join the chorus of woe that is assaulting us all from the outside world.

As we move into the new year, continue your work on reading, writing and math with your young students. Continue to bring the model of a calm, confident adult who values education to them as you provide your academic assistance. It is what we offer that makes us unique. And it makes you more important to these kids than you realize!

Best wishes to you, your family and friends in the coming year!
